Maya started her career in insurance at Swan Insurance Company Ltd, the largest non-life insurer in Mauritius. After 10 years in multi-line non-life underwriting, she moved to the Munich Re Group, more specifically to Munich Mauritius Reinsurance Company Ltd as Casualty Specialist for facultative business.
During her 12 years at Munich Re, she also worked as Non-Life Client Manager for treaty and facultative business serving Mauritius, the Indian Ocean islands and the Sub-Saharan Africa. She was also a member of the Munich Re Group International Personal Accident Topic Network representing Africa from 2009 to 2015.
She currently works as Group Technical Director for Reinsurance Solutions and oversees reinsurance placements across the world. She is also active in training and seminars for the staff and clients. Maya holds the Fellowship status of the CII and a Masters in Insurance Law from the University of London.
Her aim is to increase the number of professionals in the insurance and reinsurance sector. She strongly believes that attracting young people into this career will give another dimension to this profession in Africa and at the same time create a positive impact in the insurance penetration in that region.
