Based in Allestree, Derby, AMG Wealth Management specialise in financial planning for both individuals and families, and businesses and professionals. Services include retirement and investment planning and financial planning for business owners and directors, including business exits and sales.

Their expertise also covers all aspects of intergenerational wealth management, helping families to protect their wealth and supporting and educating the next generation. The advice they provide is of the highest calibre - and every recommendation they make is tailored to suit you.

Grab a cuppa and read on to see how they have been living the Chartered Ethos.

How long has your firm been Chartered?

We have been a Chartered firm for 3 years.

Why is Chartered status important to your business?

It shows our commitment to professional standards, to excellence in terms of knowledge, education, and ethics.

It also demonstrates to our clients that it is our priority to deliver the highest quality of advice and support and to provide an excellent client experience.

Being a Chartered firm has vastly improved our knowledge and we are proud that both Directors of the Practice are Fellows of the PFS.

What initiative has the organisation been involved in which has had a social impact/corporate social responsibility focus on?

At AMG we are very aware of our impact on the environment and our commitment to sustainability is of utmost importance to us.

For the last two years we have been involved in a new initiative to support the reduction of our carbon emissions, a major factor in climate change. Collaborating with a not-for-profit company called Co-Treetment Ltd who provide a tree planting and carbon offsetting service, AMG have purchased hundreds of trees and have planted them locally. Co-Treetment Ltd pride themselves on turning scrubland to woodland, absorbing water from flood plains and providing habitat for wildlife to thrive.

Offsetting our carbon footprint locally through planting trees in the East Midlands, directly absorbs carbon from the atmosphere and reduces the rate of climate change with every additional tree planted.

We have also donated to several educational charities and contribute regularly to a charitable foundation. We do not tend to publicise our giving, but we do publicise initiatives such as tree planting.

How do you ensure your employees remain at the forefront of their profession?

We encourage all our employees to further themselves and focus on their personal development. All employees take part in in-house training regularly throughout the year.

Personally, I have just completed a Master’s at the University of Gloucestershire in Intergenerational Wealth Management, an achievement I am very proud of as I know that the knowledge I have obtained will also benefit our clients.

All advisers at our Practice are also either Fellows or are working towards Fellow.

We are always striving for excellence!

How have you implemented the CII Code of Ethics into your business?

We have had a code of ethics implemented within the Practice long before we became Chartered.

I do not think a business can operate without a code of ethics and a strong vision and mission statement. We live and breathe our mission which is simply to be the most trustworthy knowledgeable advisers within the United Kingdom.

We understand what good looks like and ensuring that we achieve great client outcomes is very important to us and is a key element of our vision statement.

We have a very long history of class one compliance audits and a non-existent complaint rate. We appreciate that things can go wrong but it is how you put those things right. In terms of advice, we have never had a complaint and aim to keep it that way as our procedures and processes are very robust.

The biggest risk any business faces is compliance risk.

What advice would you give a firm who is considering applying to become Chartered?

Being Chartered is much more than just displaying the badge.

If you are committed to continue learning more even after becoming Chartered, then it is worth it. Personally, I feel public awareness of Chartered firms is quite low and, in my experience, there are occasions where you have to explain to clients what being Chartered actually means and the commitment that we have put in to achieve that status. It is a given that the more knowledge and experience that you accumulate, the better you can influence good client outcomes.

Push yourself wherever you can to go further, and I would always recommend investing in your staff.
