Tabitha Mwathi biography

Tabitha is an insurance and risk management professional and the Director of Talexam Insurance Agencies headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. She has been in the insurance field for the past 11 years working with both local and international clients to provide exemplary products.

She ventured into insurance advisory and placement after seeing a gap in the provision of appropriate and risk mitigating insurance advice. She placed great emphasis on educating clients on the products they are purchasing and the value these can bring to their individual lives and their organisations.

Her firm creates unique solutions that adapt to the clients’ needs and works with insurance companies to cover products that have not traditionally been offered in Kenya. Talexam serves both local and international clientele in diverse sectors including manufacturing companies, retail chains, human resource firms, NGOs, private equity firms, SMEs and individuals.

Tabitha began her foray into the financial services industry as the co-founder and CEO of the Kenya Association of Investment Groups where she actively lobbied for the formal recognition of these groups, commonly referred to in Kenya as ‘chamas’. In recognition of her work to formalise and empower the groups through capacity building, investment education and development of collaborative networks, she was named one of the Top 40 under 40 women in business and leadership in Kenya in an annual survey by the largest media company in East and Central Africa.

She is a passionate advocate for insurance inclusivity, innovative solution finding and advancement through knowledge, technology, collaboration and sharing. As a seasoned entrepreneur, Tabitha aims to engage young and aspiring professionals to progress their careers through professional qualifications, whilst tapping into and building on their amazing entrepreneurial talents. She believes innovation, technology and collaboration can be used to create extensive positive impact in the insurance space.

Tabitha holds a BSc. with honours from Reading University in the United Kingdom, a CII diploma and is currently pursuing a MSc in Insurance and Risk Management from Cass Business School at City University in London. She is also a Chevening Scholar.
