Hassan Karim ACII
Hassan started his insurance career with Hiscox in the UK, before joining Zurich Global Corporate in July 2011. He relocated from the company's Hong Kong branch to Zurich Insurance Indonesia (ZII) in July 2017, and currently holds the position of Director and Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO). As well as his local position as board Director and the CUO, Hassan is also the Head of TZW of Underwriting (formerly Technical Director – Asia Pacific) for the Asia Pacific region, working across the eight countries that make up Zurich’s Asia Pacific Region.
Prior to joining ZII, he held senior roles in both London (Global Senior Underwriter – Supply Chain Insurance) and Hong Kong (Head of Proposition, Global Underwriting Manager) and has been involved in several global initiatives and projects related to new product development, emerging risks, accumulation, cyber, property, supply chain and business interruption to name but a few.
Hassan is an experienced multi-line underwriter and an established international speaker, having spoken around the world on a variety of topics related to insurance from property, innovation, IoT, captives, capital adequacy to supply chain risk, and the implications of emerging risks and disruptive technologies for the insurance industry.
A member of the CII for over 12 years, Hassan was awarded the ACII designation in 2015 and was awarded the Chartered Insurer designation in the same year. In 2012 Hassan was selected and participated in the CII’s New Generation programme.
Hassan is a member of the City of London Insurance Livery Company (The Worshipful Company of Insurers) and has also served as a member of the Advisory Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute Hong Kong and as a committee member of the London Business Interruption Association (LBIA). He has a passionate interest in developments within the insurance industry, specifically accumulation control, emerging risks, alternative capital, cyber, parametric cover and ILS/cat bonds, supply chain, business interruption, as well as in regulatory changes such as the implementation of Solvency II and C-ROS.
