Important information about possible upcoming disruptions that may affect you. During this time, you may experience some intermittent service disruptions.  Full details are available here.

Withdrawal of units 590 and 595

The CII regularly reviews the range of qualifications and learning that it provides. Following a review, we have decided that the level of interest in unit 590 (Principles of Takaful) and 595 (Principles of Takaful (Arabic)) over the last 5 years indicates that these are not a core part of the journey for most of our learners in their current format. We will therefore be withdrawing these units from our qualification framework.

The last opportunity to enrol for this unit will be 13 February 2023, and the last date to sit the assessment for this unit will be 14 March 2023. The September 2022 and the March 2023 exam session will be based on the 2022 edition study text.

Professional education for Takaful

Providing education relating to Takaful remains important to our mission to support all insurance professionals and their customers. The CII’s new professional map provides a comprehensive framework for professional development and we look forward to developing and sharing Takaful-specific resources linked to this to support professionals and Takaful operations throughout every region.

We continue to provide core professional qualifications in insurance principles and practices. The CII Award in General Insurance and the Certificate and Diploma in Insurance develop understanding of principles and good practice applicable in both conventional and Takaful insurance and we encourage learners to use employer or local organisations – including Takaful operations – as their case studies in our Advanced Diploma in Insurance courses.

To create routes for progression to strategic professional development, we have worked with the Centre for Islamic Finance (University of Bolton) to support their creation of a new Executive MBA in Islamic Insurance available as a digital course accessible from different countries.  The CII Level 7 Certificate in Insurance Market Specialisation is also an ideal research qualification in which to research Takaful - specific themes and the key challenges in your markets and this can be used as part of the MBA’s requirements.

To complement this and support professionals more widely, we are working with the Centre for Islamic Finance (University of Bolton) and the Hume Institute, Lausanne, to establish a network of organisations and individuals committed to improving learning and development for Takaful and reTakaful operations. This will signpost good practice and emerging themes. The first webinar is scheduled for Autumn 2022 and please register your interest to find out more.
